There's no spring of the
Schorte. The
Schorte has its source below the
Knöpfelstaler pond where two anonymous brooks unite. In the headwaters not the brooks, but the valleys have names. The 'source valleys' of the
Schorte are the
Marktal, the
Silbertal, the
Mönchstal and the
Mardertal for the eastern source brook and the Breite Grund for the western source brook. The most southern spring of the
Marktal is the theoretical origin of the
Schorte. It is approx. 150 ms to the north of
Dreiherrenstein at 800-m height. In the
Marktal the
Seifige pond still exists. In the
Breite Grund there is the
Breitengrunder pond as well as a youth hostel (forest school). The whole source area (approx. 5 kms²) belongs to the central area of the biosphere reserve
Vessertal. Therefore, it's not opened by ways.
The restaurant serves good plain fare. The interior decoration is quite rustic and therefore you'll feel very comfortable.
In the surrounding forests there are multiple signposted hiking trails.
Besides the restaurant there is also a technical museum where you are able to take a deatiled look at the past mining times in this valley.
Here is an additional german languaged link for the museum.
