The Kraków barbican is a fortified outpost of, and gateway leading into, Kraków's Old Town. It is one of the few remaining relics of the complex network of fortifications and defensive barriers that once encircled the city of Kraków.

Based on Arabic rather than European defensive architecture, this masterpiece of medieval military engineering, with its circular fortress, was added to the city's fortifications along the coronation route in the late 15th century.
The Gothic-style barbican, built around 1498, is one of only three such fortified outposts still surviving in Europe, and the best preserved. It is a moated cylindrical brick structure with an inner courtyard 24.4 meters in diameter, and seven turrets. Its 3-meter-thick walls hold 130 embrasures. The barbican was originally linked to the city walls by a covered passageway that led through St. Florian's Gate and served as a checkpoint for all who entered the city. On its eastern wall, a tablet commemorates the feat of the Kraków burgher, Marcin Oracewicz, who, during the Bar Confederation, defended the town against the Russians and shot their Colonel Panin.

Barbakan w Krakowie (zwany tez potocznie Rondlem) – barbakan, najbardziej wysunieta na pólnoc czesc fortyfikacji miejskich w Krakowie.
Stanowi wycinek kola o srednicy wewnetrznej 24,40 m, a grubosc murów siega powyzej 3 m. Jest to gotycka budowla z siedmioma wiezyczkami. Dawniej byl polaczony z Brama Florianska dluga szyja i jego glównym zadaniem byla jej obrona.
Zostal wzniesiony w latach 1498-1499 za panowania Jana Olbrachta w obawie przed najazdem wolosko-tureckim zagrazajacym Krakowowi po klesce bukowinskiej. Wedlug oceny specjalistów w okresie od XV do XVIII wieku byl forteca nie do zdobycia.
Na barbakanie znajduje sie plyta poswiecona Marcinowi Oracewiczowi. Jak glosi legenda, podczas konfederacji barskiej, gdy zabraklo mu amunicji przy obronie Krakowa, nabil karabin guzikiem od czamary i zabil rosyjskiego dowódce Panina.
Obecnie barbakan jest oddzialem Muzeum Historycznego Miasta Krakowa. Wykorzystywany jest jako miejsce ekspozycji róznorodnych wystaw, jako arena walk sportowych np. mistrzostw Polski w szermierce badz historyzowanych walk rycerskich i tanców dworskich.

Barbakán v Krakove je brána mestského opevnení a jedna z mála zachovaných cástí nekdejšího mestského opevnení Krakova. Jde o nejsevernejší cást krakovského fortifikacního systému.
Krakovský barbakán je gotická stavba kruhového tvaru o vnitrním prumeru 24,40 m, tlouštka zdí je více než 3 m. Puvodne byl spojený s Floriánskou bránou a mestským opevnením. Byl obehnán príkopem 24 m širokým a 3,5 m hlubokým.[1]
Barbakán byl postaven za vlády krále Jana Olbrachta v letech 1498-1499 v obave pred valašsko-tureckým nájezdem, který Krakovu hrozil po porážce polských vojsk po bitve u Kozmina.
Na východní stene je pametní deska pripomínající krakovského obcana Marcina Oracewicze, který podle legendy zachránil mesto pred Rusy tím, že pri nedostatku munice nabil do své zbrane knoflík a zastrelil neprátelského velitele Panina.
Dnes je barbakán soucástí Historického muzea mesta Krakov. Je využíván pro nejruznejší výstavy a jiné akce.
