In Homer, on a sand bar known as Homer Spit, is a tsunami warning siren.
The siren is on top of a telephone pole, and has seven 'ribs.'
I, myself, don't live in the area. This area has experienced tsunamis, however. The worst earthquake to hit Alaska, and second in the world, set off tsunamis all over the place in March, 1964. According to a web page on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (based in Palmer, AK) web site the tsunami did reach Homer, Alaska, and flooded the spit. No deaths were reported there, but there was one death reported in Kachemack Bay where it juts out.
So, if it sounds, pay head!
