The former school of Westerkirk parish had a famous son, Thomas Telford, who has a memorial at the gates. The school closed in 2000-01.

The school is closed now and the school house adjoining is lived in.
Visit Link The current structure was built in 1840, as the books of Westerkirk library were housed in the school prior to this one and needed a home of their own, as there was not space for the books.
Visit Link The school building appears on the first edition of the Ordnance Survey maps in 1857. It is a single storey built of local grey rubble stone. The window and door surrounds are a better stone. The grounds look to be still maintained.
