This memorial was erected by the Institute of Civil Engineers in conjunction with Eskdale and Liddesdale Archaeological Society, in 1928. It is in front of the Westerkirk library beside the road, and made from grey Creetown granite.

The words are.
"Thomas Telford FRS.
Born at Glendinning 9 August 1757
President Institution of
Civil Engineers
from 21 March 1820 to the time
of his death 2 September 1834"

Telford was a early road and bridge builder. Many of his structures still stand and his design of road building has been modified for today's use with tar.

This memorial is Grade C (star) listed.
