It is mostly Gothic in style however does exhibit some features reflecting the earlier style. The cathedral was the cathedral of the Diocese of Killaloe , it is now one of three cathedrals in the United Dioceses of Limerick and Killaloe. Some rebuilding work was done on the cathedral during the 19th century with major restorative work does in the 1960s and again in the 1990s.
