The 82 brightly coloured Brighton bathing boxes aligned in sentry order along the Dendy Street Beach, were constructed between 1860 & 1915. Brighton became a favourite seaside location after the rail line from Melbourne reached Brighton in 1861.
As simple structures they retain their classic Victorian architectural features with timber framing, weatherboards and corrugated iron roofs.
Bayside City Council issues annual licences to local residents for personal use of the bathing boxes.
