On September 15, 1848, a charter was granted for Golden Rule Lodge No. 17. In 1853 members voted to buy a suitable piece of land on which to erect a lodge hall. The first meeting was held there on January 3, 1855. Since its organization, Golden Rule Lodge No. 17 has continued to serve the citizens of Milton in the principles of Odd Fellowship.
Lodge activities are town wide yard sales in the spring and fall, a Testimonial Dinner, VA bingo, Conclave Drill Team of Delaware, Church Day, degree rallies and Pilgrimage to the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington. They also sponsor a Sweetheart Dinner near Valentine's Day, a Harvest Ball, JPB Summer picnic, the United Nations Pilgrimage joint youth committee and the MS Bike to the Bay.
