The bridge connects the "Zeeburger eiland" (east of Amsterdam) and "Amsterdam-Noord" . The bridge opened in 1957 and was the first fixed link between Amsterdam-North and the rest of the city. The bridge is equipped with two lanes and bicycle and pedestrian paths. The bridge has a movable part. East of the Bridge is the Zeeburgertunnel since 1990, part of the ring road around Amsterdam
