Camp Cottermouth has been completely re-built after being destroyed during the 2003 Canberra Bushfires. We visited on the way back from viewing the new enlarged Cotter Dam construction site.

The Scouts' Camp Cottermouth is beside the Murrumbidgee River, 20km west of Canberra approx 15 minutes from Parliament House. The Camp is available for public hire. The Murrumbidgee River Corridor includes delightful undeveloped areas of native bush. There are kangaroos and other native animals in the reserve, and many native birds call Camp Cottermouth home. The Camp has magnificent views of the Cotter Valley to the Brindabella Ranges.
Camp Cottermouth consists of the Shakespeare Centre for Scouting residential and training complex and the Kangaroo Flat camping area. The Shakespeare Centre has two dormitories for 22 each, with a room accommodating 5 more off each dormitory. Two multi-purpose training rooms with basic facilities in another building could accommodate another 10 people. Most facilities are wheelchair accessible and there are wheelchair suitable showers and toilets. A covered path provides wheelchair access between buildings. En-suite accommodation can be provided for coach drivers. Groups can self-cater in the modern kitchen or catering can be provided.
Kangaroo Flat can accommodate up to 1000 people under canvas, and there are powered sites for four caravans.
Training Facilities. Three training rooms can accept up to twenty people each. One is between the dormitories, and the other two are in a separate building. We have basic training equipment on site (OHP, video, etc) and can arrange hire of other equipment if necessary. Our Adventure Trail has been planned to provide graded challenges from young children to adults. It is suitable for individual or team activities. The bush and our grounds provide sites for many experiences.
The river is suitable for swimming, except after heavy rain. It is suitable for canoeing and rafting at most times of the year. Abseiling can be practiced on a rock face nearby and many hike routes originate in the area. The Kambah to Casuarina Sands walk passes the property. The site contains a playing field, two stages and a number of campfire circles. Kangaroo Flat has large grassed areas suitable for a number of activities. Trail riding can be arranged with a nearby riding school. Fishing is allowed at certain times. We are only a short drive from any of the ACT tourist and educational sites.
