In the north of Spain there is an ancient pilgrim route that has been revived as a cultural hiking path and thousands and thousands of people walk it, ride their bikes along it, or do it on horseback. You cross many borders along the way. borders of provinces (like state borders in the US) that in fact, before the unification of Spain were borders of separate countries, principalities to be exacr. So the marker is marking a border of two of them, Galicia and Leon and is crossed by thousands of walkers, bikers, horseback riders every year.On the Camino de Santiago right before you reach the O'Cebreiro village you climb to cross the border of the two provinces and you run across this marker. The welcome center/facilities I mention below are about a mile up from the marker at the location O'Cebreiro and consist of a pilgim visitor center/overnight facility, restaurants, private hostals, a church and other tourist catering installations.
