In Westwood, on busy Mass. Route 109, is Folsom Funeral Services. This operation has been in place since 1959 and is part of a local family owned operation.

The building is a white clapboard building with black shutters. The roof is peaked. The building has two full floors and probably used space in the third floor under the roof. There is an 'el' addition off to the right when facing the front of the building, and a porch on the second floor spans between them.

The following historical sketch is from their web site. The Folsom family started in 1905 when Arthur Nye Folsom bought a funeral service from Mr. Hill. No records exist of the previous operation. His son, Earl W. Folsom joined the firm as the youngest licensed funeral director in the state (as reported by the web site, Massachusetts has since required a high school diploma to receive the license). The operation started in Roslindale, which is part of the City of Boston. In 1959, they won a bid for the funeral home in Westwood run by Smith & Higgins Funeral Company. Richard J. Folsom, one of Earl's sons, moved into the Westwood operations. Some time in the 1990s, Richard "Dick" Folsom retired. The operation is still family owned, now down to the 4th generation.
