St. John Church, Wolfenbuettel
The church was sainted after two years of construction on the 13th of December 1663 in the presence of Augustus the Younger of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel by Brandanus Daetrius, chaplain and ordained Abbot of Riddagshausen. 1960 a tasteful restoration was applied.
St. John's was built as a three-aisled timber-framed building on a rubble stone plinth with a pitched roof. A special feature is the massive West Front. The original church tower was demolished around 1690 due to a lack of stability. 1693 a free-standing bell tower was built after the massive draft country architect Johann Balthasar Lauterbach. The basement with vaulted ceilings and arched entrance was conceived as a morgue.

Die Kirche wurde nach zweijähriger Bauzeit am 13. Dezember 1663 im Beisein Augusts des Jüngeren von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel durch Brandanus Daetrius, Hofprediger und Abt von Riddagshausen geweiht. 1960 erfolgt eine geschmackvolle Restaurierung.
St. Johannis wurde als dreischiffiger Fachwerkbau auf einen Bruchsteinsockel mit einem Satteldach erbaut. Eine Besonderheit ist die massive Westfront mit Eckverquaderung. Der ursprüngliche Kirchturm musste ca. 1690 wegen einer mangelhaften Stabilität abgetragen werden. Als Ersatz wurde 1693 ein freistehender massiver Glockenturm nach dem Entwurf des Landbaumeisters Johann Balthasar Lauterbach erbaut. Das Untergeschoss mit Kreuzgewölbe und rundbogigem Eingang wurde dabei als Leichenhalle konzipiert.
