The Royal Palace/Silver Pagoda complex in Phnom Penh houses a number of significant Cambodian cultural artefacts, and is a must on the tourist circuit. One item on display is a replica of Angkor Wat.
Angkor Wat is the largest temple in what is a complex of temples built by the Cambodian kings a millennia ago. The temple of Angkor Wat covers over a square kilometre, and lies ~240kms to the north west of Phnom Penh. It was built by king Suryavarman II early in the 12th century as the state temple for his capital city. At that time it is estimated that one million people lived and worked at Angkor. In the contemporary era the temple has achieved iconic status, it is widely found in Cambodia, from the national flag to a brand of beer (Angkor beer).
The replica is located to the immediate east of the temple of the Emerald Buddha. It is easily seen and photography is allowed.
