The ornament well was planned to set up originally on the nearly Ferenciek square. Budapest’s most magnificent fountain got ready in 1883 - already on Kálvin square, at the front of the savings bank's new mansion. The plans of the well, just like the early tenement house of the savings bank was born on Miklós Ybl’s drawing table. The architect himself was lived on the third floor in this tenement house also. So, we can say: he can followed the work of the stonemasons from his windows.
The shapes of the sculptures modeled by Leo Fessler. The weight of the bigger stone pool plates of the well was a thousand metric centner. To carrying it from the stonemine of Budakalász they was needed to make a specially strog cart. There was who were afraid that Margaret bridge cracks under it’s weight. The circle of the well (his little space) turned into a popular meeting place, often appeared in the short stories of the literary on the beginnings of the century. On the wartime, when the water is requirement for the army, similarly to the other fountains of Budapest, it’s cables has been locked and corroded for years.
Time to time plans were born for the rearrangement of the increasingly busier space, and the moving of the fountain and the connected reformed church. The decisoion has been made by the II. WorldWar. The well has strongly harmed under the siege, in the summer of 1949 the figures has been transported to the main warehouses for repair. The newly formed well by Dezso Gyory is decorates the Erzsébet square since1959. One of the original well sculptures alomst harmless survived the attacks of armies on the yard of the Two Lions Inn.
