Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, is a growing city of over one million people. It was founded in the 1430s AD, it is situated on the Mekong River, and the modern city owing its existence to the French colonial government. In the 2000s the city experienced an economic boom, and underwent an ongoing period of major renovation and refurbishment.
Sorya Mall provides a view of the city from its centre. There are several other highrise buildings under construction or planned, which will, in years to come, provide a similar view. The mall is easily found, near the city centre, and close to the Central Market—ask any tuk tuk driver. Several elevator rides or a lift will take you to the penultimate floor, from there ascend on foot up a staircase to a Japanese restaurant atop the mall. Surrounding the restaurant is a lookout area, which provides views of three quarters of the city.
From the lookout the roofs of the city can be seen. With only a few exceptions Sorya is the tallest building in the city.
