Not much history has been left about this Upping Stone as to whom it belonged, although it is thought to have been privately owned in the old town of Estiville, was renamed to present day Gate City, Virginia.
The currant owner said that it once had a brass horses head with an iron ring in it's mouth to hitch a horse to, but that part was stolen many years ago.
