The Madrid is a restaurant, located at exit 202 of Highway 20, Saint-Leonard d'Aston, near Drummondville, between Montreal and Quebec.
When it opened in 1950, it bore the name of Moulin Rouge and was both a restaurant, grocery store and a ballroom that can serve as a reception room. In 1967, the Moulin Rouge was the victim of a violent fire. The restaurant was rebuilt in the Spanish style, the original owner fondness particularly Spain, and was renamed The Madrid.
Since 1968, the Madrid occupies a special place in the imagination of travelers from the 20: the place is decorated in extravagant, showy. It includes for example, vehicles such as gigantic "monster trucks' and giant fake dinosaurs, visible from the highway. Some Quebecers consider it a high place of "cheesy".
The Madrid is full of hundreds of photos of personalities who have stopped by. The Quebec singer Normand L'Amour occurred there for several years. It is said that René Lévesque, Premier of Quebec from 1976 to 1985, liked to eat there when traveling between Montreal and Quebec.
Bought in 1987 by Richard Arel and Ginette Smith hoping to meet the company was threatened by bankruptcy. In 2002, Julie Arel and her husband Daniel Paulin have purchased.
