The diner began serving customers in Kansas in 1956, but moved to Colorado Springs in 1958. From their webpage: "The diner sat on the corner of Tejon Street and Costilla Avenue on the south east corner until 1958. The diner then moved 1/2 block on Costilla to 110 east Costilla and is still on the same location today. The Diner was taken over by Samuel Floyd Johnson. Legend has it that Sam Johnson ran the King's Chef diner for 30+ years with his loyal waitress who is now teaching special education in Colorado Springs. Then around 1995 Merl and Sandra Moore purchased the diner from Sam Jonson and ran the King's Chef until 1997. Gary Geiser then purchased the diner in 1997 and has run it since."

It's still in business, serving large portions of hash browns with the typical breakfast fare of eggs and toast, and burgers of all kinds for lunch.
