The "Herzogstuhl" was built in the 9th century and consists of mostly roman stoneplates from the ancient roman city "Virunum". As excavations showed the "Herzogstuhl" is built at the south end of this ancient town.
First proven use of the Herzogstuhl is the year 1161 A.D.
On its west side the count palatine was used to sit and on the east side the duke of Carinthia took place.
From this chair of stones, several formal ceremonies where held. Here the duke blessed the stands the oath, received the homage awarded the feud and said law.
