This small cemetery is tucked away on the west side of Albert Place and used to be in the grounds of Notre Dame Convent. Even though one of the main entrances to the Greyfriars Bus and Coach Station is quite near this is a quiet and peaceful place. The cemetery is backed by a brick wall and on three sides there are green painted, cast iron railings on top of a low brick wall.

The convent was run by the Sisters of Notre Dame of Namur, a Roman Catholic teaching order, who devoted themselves to the education of the Catholic poor. The Sisters, under the guidance of Sister Mary of St. Francis (Hon. Laura M. Petre), had founded eighteen houses in England before her death in June, 1886. By 1910 there were twenty-one.
Besides the main building, which fronted the north side of Abington Street, there was a chapel, playing fields and tennis courts.
The convent was closed in 1975 and demolished, the land sold off and redeveloped leaving the cemetery intact, the Abington Street frontage becoming a row of shops.

The entrance gate has a cast plaque with the inscription:

The Sisters of Notre Dame
1852 - 1975
Placed by Notre Dame Association
1984

Fixed to the back wall alongside a wooden cross is a black marble plaque inscribed:

In Loving Memory of
The Sisters of Notre Dame
Buried Here. 1851 - 1969
R-I-P

There are some twenty-five cast iron memorial crosses, the lettering RIP can be seen on some of them but on the whole there is no visible lettering.

In the spring the cemetery is ablaze with yellow daffodils but the wooden image of Christ on the Cross, seen in some old photographs and film as late as 1992, has been removed from the cross, the fixings still visible.
