This sculpture was one of several placed on open display in the gardens. The white colour providing a sharp contrast to the green grass and clear blue skies. The sculpture shows a mother feeding her child.

The artist was Asmundur Sveinsson (1893 - 1982) was born in Iceland and trained both there and overseas. His themes were often men and women at work. Later in his career his work became more abstract. Like many Icelandic artists Ásmundur drew upon the traditions of his native country when seeking subjects to inspire him.
