The Pentland Hills are a range of hills to the south-west of Edinburgh, Scotland. The range is around 20 miles in length, and runs south west from Edinburgh towards Biggar and the upper Clydesdale.
The hills form part of the southern edge of the Pentlands, providing views south across Penicuik to the Lammermuir and Moorfoot Hills,
The second highest summit of the Pentland Hills, Carnethy Hill rises to 573m (1879 feet) about 3 miles northwest of Penicuik in the Midlothian region.
The pile of stones on the summit of Carnethy Hill is the remains of a Bronze Age cairn
Loganlea Reservoir lies on its northwest flank.
