The plaque states...

"Three American whaling ships were wrecked in the vicinity of this plaque. The remains of at least two of them lie nearby.

Samuel Wright
A 372 tons, 33.5 metres long wooden ship, wrecked during a storm which claimed two other whalers on the 8th July 1840. Registered at Salem, Massachusetts. It was considered one of their best whale ships.

North America (1840)
A 270 tons, wooden whaler out of Wilmington, USA, lost in the same storm as the "Samuel Wright".

North America (1843)
A 285 tons, 25 metres long Rhode Island registered whaler which went aground during a gale on the 12th April 1843. Repaired and refloated, it again went aground on June 19th and finished up close to the remains of the "Samuel Wright".

The whaler sites are protected as historic wrecks.

A Bunbury Joint Heritage Group plaque complied with assistance from the W.A. Maritime Museum and the South West Development Authority."
