In 1748 the Mithraic Altar was positioned here in Wrest Park for Jemina Marchioness de Grey and her husband Philip Earl of Hardwicke. It lies in the woodland and is constructed of flint and ashlar. The altar has inscriptions with old Greek on the western side and cuneiform on the eastern side. There is a claw-foot and foliage design in the detail on each corner of the rectangular altar.

The altar is a Grade II Listed feature listed on 10th January 1985.
