In Cambridge, in the Central Square district and along Massachusetts Avenue, is a pair of painted utility boxes. Each box is painted very differently from the other. One is painted as if it were a bookcase; the other in abstract forms.

The first box is squarish in shape, and is about 1 1/2 feet thick. It is painted brown on the narrow faces and top, and has lines depicting three shelves on both of the squarish faces. Books are painted on each shelf, sometimes vertical, sometimes flat or at odd angles. Several titles can be seen on the spine of the books. Other things that can be seen include a spider web and a 4x4 Rubick's Cube.

The second box is larger and taller than the first. It appears to be stenciled spray painting, with lines and areas in either orange or black paint, and other areas in blue. Also stenciled in black are heads and a boom box, and a cityscape on the other side. Stenciled as part of the design of the subway train (presumed) is the name "J. Shier" [? - found no other information about this artist].

I could not find any information either on bookcase box (though I didn't read every title of the books to see if the artist name was one of them) or on the internet.

Both have been this way for several years, though no dates could be found on the boxes or on the internet.

The utility boxes are about a half block away from a well-known establishment called Rodney's Bookstore, which sold all used books. Unfortunately, it will be closed within a month.
Name of Artist: J. Shier [?] was found on the abstract box.
