While visiting Fairbanks I was touring the Monument to the First Settlers park located on the Chena River at 1st Ave. and Cushman St. While wandering around the small park I happened to notice a plaque and type of benchmark disk placed by the Alaska Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Most of the people visiting this park probably don't even notice this, but I found it quite interesting.
Notice the disk has the words "Golden Heart" stamped in the center. Golden refers to the gold mines around the Fairbanks area, and Heart refers to Fairbanks being the Heart of Alaska.
