The Olney Historical Society plays an important role in preserving the history of Olney. The website describes the society:

'The Olney and District Historical Society was founded in 1997 by a group of like-minded people determined to keep the history of the town and its environs alive for all generations of people living in the town of Olney.

A series of meetings and outings/events are planned each year, the meetings are held in the Olney Centre, itself of much historical interest.

Life in Olney has changed beyond all recognition during the last seventy years or so, and one aim of the Society is to document the reminiscences of inhabitants before their memories are lost forever. The documented records take the form of published books and articles on this website.'

The Olney Centre is a historic building described by Olney Town Council:

'Originally a Victorian Elementary School built in 1877 which has been completely refurbished inside and out. A large extension houses a well appointed kitchen, garden room and office. The front playground has been converted to an attractive garden while the rear playground provides ample parking.

The Olney Centre gives the town and surrounding area a wonderful meeting place for groups of all sizes and interests. The pre-school playgroup uses part of the building on a regular basis. The library is situated in the front classroom leaving four large rooms and the main hall for use by local organisations or for hire for private or business functions.

All local organisations are invited to use the facilities for their meetings at priority rates.'

Set back from the road the Olney Centre is an attractive building with its old school characteristics still preserved and noticeable.
