Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's Fokker F.VIIB/3M, named 'Southern Cross' is housed in a Memorial Hanger in the grounds of the Brisbane International Airport.
Born at Hamilton, Brisbane, "Smithy's" achievements in aviation are known worldwide.
In 1928 he undertook the first successful crossing of the Pacific Ocean, flying from Oakland, California to Brisbane, Australia 31 May to 9 June 1928 in the Southern Cross.

Housed in a purpose-built hanger. The hanger is surrounded in slanting glass (to diminish glare). Free to view, there are numerous plaques detailing the trans-Pacific flight, as well as a push-button audio commentary in English and Mandarin (which wasn't working).
