This large bell with wooden ringer sits near the first temple stop at Yonghe Gong Lama Temple in Beijing. On it is the text of the holy book of Buddhism. After one prays and bows three times in each direction with burning incense, one can ring the bell (for a price).
Yonghe Gong Lama Temple is home to an 18 meter tall Buddha carved from a single sandlewood tree, as well as several other depictions of Buddha. It is a well-used Buddhist temple found by walking a short distance from the Yonghgong Lama Temple stop on subway line 5. You will pass many little shops selling incense, Buddhas and other items related to Buddhism. There is a small fee to enter the temple grounds, well worth the price.
