Banded Iron Ore - Washington, DC - Rock and Mineral Displays on Waymarking.com

Outside the museum, flanking the National Mall entrance steps (left side), is a 2.25 billion-year-old boulder of banded iron ore from Ishpeming, Michigan. One side is cut and polished. The boulder was installed on March 16, 1985.
