The Jackson Street Roundhouse is part of the Minnesota Transportation Museum, whose mission is to preserve the state's history of various modes of transportation. The roundhouse itself is a former Great Northern Railway property and today houses numerous pieces of restored equipment, notably locomotives. The museum is normally open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10AM-4PM. Caboose or bus rides are available on Saturdays.

Some of the outdoor displays include Northern Pacific Caboose 1264 and several other static engines and train cars.

The roundhouse bays are where old trains cars are kept. Some bays have refurbished cars on display. Some bays are where the restoration is being done.
The caboose ride on Saturday is a treat. It takes you up some steep track, switches to another track, with an actual switchman. Then the trip is reversed to return to the origin. You can ride in the engine or the caboose.
