Dedicated by The Town of Tsukui. In honour of the Centennial Celebration of The City of Trail And the 10th Anniversary of the Trail - Tsukui twinning relationship. June 14, 2001
From the City of Trail's webpage:
In 2006, Trail established a sister city relationship with the City of Sagamihara in Japan when the Town of Tsukui, with which Trail had shared a sister city relationship for 15 years, amalgamated with Sagamihara. Sagamihara is located approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Tokyo and has a population of over 600,000.
In the sister city relationship with the Town of Tsukui, resident exchanges were organized, allowing residents of the Greater Trail area to travel abroad and stay in the homes of Tsukui residents. Similarly, homestay volunteers in Trail welcomed residents of Tsukui into their homes. These exchanges provided an opportunity for a true view of life in another culture and it is evident that the same experience will continue with Sagamihara City and its residents. Exchanges continue to bolster the friendship relations between us and Trail is proud of its strong and committed relationship with the metropolitan City of Sagamihara, Japan.
Trail is a city in the southeast corner of BC. It has a population of approximately 7500 people and it's main employer is the largest non-ferrous lead and zinc smelter in the world owned by Teck Cominco.
