Valloire is a small town with few full time residents and only 26 students in six grades in the primary school. Above the school garden is an excellent old sundial. The hour lines are traced every 15 minutes. The wall faces south declining a few degrees west.
The motto is "Dies Nostra Sicut Umbra" or Our days are like the shadow.
There are four fine sundials in the area, two by Zarbula, on in the hamlet of Poingt Raviers and this one on the school.
The school is behind the town office (Marie). Valloire is now a resort recreation center for the mountains in the summer and skiing in the winter. Access from the south over Col de Galibier closed by snow from late October to late May. The lower access from the north remains open year round.
