Castle Howard is one of England's grandest "stately homes", an 18th century Baroque mansion set in 1,00 acres of landscaped gardens.
The Atlas figure and surrounding titans, or sea gods, were carved by the sculptor John Thomas. The fountain was first turned on in 1853.
The fountain was the setting for memorable scenes in the 1981 TV series and the 2008 film adaptations of Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisited
The fountain has recently undergone extensive restoration
