"Sculptor Carl Wilhelm "Ville" Vallgren (1855-1940) was born in Porvoo but made his way to Helsinki and finally Paris. There he spent 36 years studying and working. Ville Vallgren was an illustrator of feminine beauty, and his miniature sculptures and symbolist ornaments brought him international fame at the end of the 19th century. Ville Vallgren's most famous work is the Havis Amanda fountain erected at the Helsinki Market Square in 1908.
