The University of Wollongong was established in 1975 after some years of being a college of the then New South Wales University of Technology, (later the University of New South Wales). It has since undergone mergers and expansions to have campuses as far away as Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The main University grounds have many trees so that views of the buildings are often difficult to obtain. The best general view of the University (and the central Illawarra) is to be obtained from lookouts at Mt Kiera west of the main university campus.
The University has an international reputation and conducts teaching and research from undergraduate to post-doctoral level in many fields such as Arts, Engineering and Medicine to name a few.
This waymark is located at the main campus entrance.
