Mayfield Dairy in Athens, Tennessee is one of 3 sites (which combined produce 70 million gallons of milk and 30 million gallons of ice cream annually) and is the corporate headquarters.
They are particularly proud of a couple of aspects in their production methods. They use opaque, yellow milk jugs to keep ultraviolet light from spoiling the milk prematurely, and they use innovated techology to remove unwanted tastes and odors from the milk.
Tours of this milk and ice cream processing plant are available free of charge on every day except Sundays when they are closed. There is also a gift shop and store where you can buy your milk or ice cream to take home. They also have an ice cream parlor on-site if you need your ice cream fix right then and there.
