Each of the 50 states in the U.S. participated in a program to locate and mark the geographic location of the center of the state's population, according to the Census taken in the year 2000.

Pennsylvania's monument was set in a cooperative project of the National Geodetic Survey, The Boy Scouts of America Troop 117 - Altoona & the PA Society of Land Surveyors.

To reach from Market Street (PA Route 34) & Town Square - proceed NW along 2nd Street for 4 blocks to the end of the street & sign on the left at entrance to ballfield. Travel eastward for 10-15 feet, then northward along outfield fence to the area of the disk. It is located about 20 feet beyond the fence - NE of a bench & pole.
