Thomas Goodall was a British-born entrepreneur who established the Goodall Mills in Sanford. Because of the important role these mills played in the history of the town, the citizens of Sanford erected a statue of Goodall in 1917. The statue, recently refurbished, is located in Downtown Center Park.

The granite base of the statue is decorated with two interesting bronze relief art depictions of the Goodall Mill buildings. One depicts the original Goodall Mill building (which is no longer standing), the other depicts the expansive Sanford Mill complex (still standing and located not far from the statue).

John Horrigan is the sculptor who created the Thomas Goodall figure located on top of the statue, but is unclear if he also created the bas relief pieces located on the base.
