A monument containing a poem by Archdeacon Nares to the springs of Amwell which feed the New River.

The inscription reads:-

'Amwell! perpetual be thy stream,
Nor e'er thy spring be less,
Which thousands drink, who never dream,
Whence flows the boon they bless.
Too often thus ungrateful man
Blind and unconscious lives,
Enjoys kind Heav'ns indulgent plan,
Nor thinks of him who gives.
Archdeacon NARES 1818.'
