The design of the National Museum of the Marine CorpsClick for related waymark to open in new window in Triangle VA evokes the iconic image of Marines raising the American flag at Iwo Jima in World War II. Its round conical glass ceiling with 180' spire looks as unique from the ground as it does from outer space.

The 100,000 square foot museum opened in November 2006 and is the focal point of the Marine Corps Heritage Center which sits on 130 acres adjacent to the Quantico Marine Corps Base.
