To acquire, preserve, restore and display railroad artifacts and equipment with primary focus on Arizona and the Southwest. This is the mission statement of the Arizona Railway Museum founded in 1983.

Among its equipment is a locomotive from 1906, other historic engines, various pullman, dome, diner, business and private cars, various freight cars and cabooses. The museum also has an extensive collection of photographs relating to railway history.

The Arizona Railway Museum was in downtown Chandler for many years before moving to its current location outside of Tumbleweed Park. This allowed it to expand, with more trains for more exhibits. Like all museums, it is suffering from the poor economy. It is closed for the summer (far too hot in Arizona) and will reopen September 11, 2010. They welcome anyone who comes when volunteers are around working on equipment even when they are officially closed.
