The on site sign reads:
"The gigantic ice sheet that poured its weight over this landscape dug a basin for Jordan Pond and reshaped the bubbles, the twin mountains behind the pond. The ice came toward you gliding over the sloping backside of the bubbles, rounding their contours and cutting them down to perhaps half their former size.
Continuing forward and downward the glacier scooped out a trough. When the ice melted it deposted a natural dam of rocky debris at the mouth of the trough creating Jordan Pond.
Glacial ice compressed betweet Sargent and Pemetic Mountains flowed faster and cut deeper in the depression now occupied by Jordan pond. The basin of Eagle lake was also excavated by ice.
Water evaporated from the oceans, took the form of ice in the far north, then flowed over the region like cold molasses. "
