Akeley considers itself the "Birthplace of Paul Bunyan." Even the entry signs to town make that claim. In the 1940's Akeley had Paul Bunyan's cradle on display, and it now sits beside the Paul statue.
The statue is of enormous size just as Paul Bunyan's legacy. Paul is a folklore giant in Minnesota and in many parts of the world and this statue does his stature in folklore and tall tales justice. Paul is even a featured epic being in Disney's "Tall Tale" movie.
A great place to make a pit stop, nice park, kids (and even adults) can sit in the palm of Paul's hand for a photo. Paul's cradle sits beside the stature.
