The Glensheen Mansion in Duluth Minnesota was the setting for movie "You'll Like My Mother." The movie was filmed in 1972 in Duluth MN. The scene is from the back door of the mansion as Patty Duke arrives at the home of her mother-in-law after her husband is killed in action.

One note while the outside scene is shot from the lakeside of the mansion, once the door is opened, the scene inside the house is from the front or street side of the mansion.

Also Duluth was hit with a blizzard doing the filming of the movie which was perfect for the setting. I remember Patty Duke got pneumonia or some illness while filming the movie and spent some time in the Duluth hospital.

Glensheen at the time was owned by the Congdon family. Elisabeth Congdon, the owner spent winters in Tuscon so the film crew filmed during that time period. When Elisabeth saw the movie at the Duluth premiere she was surpised at the dark tone.

A few years later Elisabeth Congdon and her night nurse were killed in a brutal murder in the mansion. Much like the board game clue with a candlestick etc. Her son in law was convicted and later acquited and her adopted daughter has long been suspect. It was quite the story in the Minnesota media for years and to some point still is.

Many outdoor scenes at Glensheen, located on Lake Superior were used in the movie.
