The coordinates are the location of a statue of Captain George Vancouver - Royal Navy (1757-1798). The statue is located near Esther Short Park in the midst of the city of Vancouver U.S.A. The statue was dedicated July 16, 2005. Sculpted by Jim Demetro.

Vancouver U.S.A. is the oldest city in the state of Washington. It was the historic site of Fort Vancouver, Hudson's Bay Company fur trading center, which operated from 1824-1846. It has an area of 42.8 sq. miles with a population of about 160,000. Vancouver has the mighty Columbia River on the south side and lies directly across the river from Portland, Oregon. It was incorporated as a city in 1857.

I visited the colorful indoor/outdoor Farmers Market next to Esther Short Park. Here you can pick up fresh produce, plants, crafts, and great food.

Vancouver, British Columbia is located in the lower mainland of British Columbia. It has an area of about 44 sq. miles with a population of about 600,000. It is surrounded by water. The city was incorporated in 1886. The first permanent settlement grew up near Hastings Sawmill that had been built in 1865.

I visited Granville Island, a vibrant complex of public markets, trendy shops, restaurants, art galleries, museums and theaters.

The city (and its U.S. counterpart) are named after Royal Navy Captain George Vancouver (1758-1798) of Great Britain, who explored the coast of Washington State and the Burrard Inlet, a natural harbor, in 1792.
