The traditional Korean heating system called
ondol uses heat from the kitchen or other fire channeled through a system of flues under the floor, exiting through a chimney on the other side. Here, on the rear of the house, are seen two chimneys with decorative toppers.
The style of this house is common in central parts of the Korean peninsula, mostly Chungcheong Province. It is also known as the "L shaped house" since it resembles the Korean letter "L". [
