The extension south of Bomaderry Railway Station may have been for proposed further southwards development of the railway that has yet to come to fruition. The writer understands that it was used as a shunting neck of the Bomaderry railway yard.

The extension took the short railway across a timber trestle of not insignificant size across Bomaderry Creek. The writer has a book with a photo of a tour passenger train standing on the bridge on 23rd November, 1969.

Within the waterway, timber piers are anchored to concrete foundations which finish above the high water mark. On the banks of the creek, timber piers were driven directly into the ground. It is the rotting and undermining of the southern bank piers that have caused two spans to sag and now render the bridge dangerous.

Some time, most likely in the 1980's, the bridge was severed from the sidings attached to the Bomaderry railway yards. This was most likely to remove the headroom restriction on the Bolong Road, of which one span of this bridge crossed before crossing Bomaderry Creek.

A galvanized steel pipe is still attached to parts of the bridge and is freely suspended where two spans sag downwards with the failure of a set of piers. It is not known what the pipe is for.

The waterway below the bridge is navigable with power boats using a nearby boat ramp for launching. The creek enters the Shoalhaven River within a few hundred metres.

How long will this structure remain? The prudent course of action would be demolition. It currently does represent urban decay.
