These unique manhole covers have the "Expo 98" World Exhibition logo engraved and can be found throughout the streets where the exhibition took place which haven't been rebuilt in the meantime.

The area was Lisbon's industrial area prior to 1998. Transformation happened almost overnight. Factories were demolished, slums bulldozed, locals rehoused. It is now the prime location for shops and offices and is managed by a private entity. These manhole covers are the maintenance covers for the integrated waste removal / water transport / gas / electricity / telecommunications ducts. Newer areas of Parque das Nações no longer feature the "Expo 98" manhole covers.
